Jim Young is a co-founder of Christie & Young PC, a member of the firm’s Board of Directors,Firm Managing Shareholder and Chair of the firm’s Health and Life Sciences Group. Mr. Young began practicing law in Philadelphia in 1972 upon conclusion of his Pennsylvania Supreme Court judicial clerkship. During his 40 plus years of practice, Mr. Young has litigated an extraordinary variety of cases, including frequent defense of catastrophic personal injury claims as a result of professional liability, corporate or individual negligence and product defect claims. He has handled thousands of toxic tort claims, represented hundreds of physicians and numerous hospitals in defense of professional negligence actions, defended personal and corporate defamation and trade libel claims, including false advertising, Lanham Act claims and anti-counterfeiting, and defended both a wide range of product manufacturers and individuals in brain injury, electrocution and burn cases and a variety of construction claims involving personal injury and economic loss. He has handled administrative hearings for employee grievences, state licensing issues, and FDA relative matters. Among the numerous commercial claims that he has handled are a wide variety of insurance coverage cases, securities, antitrust (criminal and civil), financial fraud, RICO, and complicated ERISA claims. He has successfully defended six class action claims filed in both the state and federal courts.
Mr. Young has tried well over 90 cases to verdict before juries and tried many other cases to judges only. He has been selected as appellate counsel in arguments to the highest state court in Pennsylvania and numerous Circuit Courts across the United States. Mr. Young has appeared on briefs submitted to the Supreme Court of the United States.
In recognition of his experience and accomplishments, Mr. Young has been elected to fellowship in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, admission to which is gained only upon recommendation of judges, opposing counsel and peers and elected to fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers, membership in which is limited to one percent of the total lawyer population of the United States and Canada. He has been named as a Super Lawyer for more than fifteen years, and recently as top 100 in Philadelphia and top 100 in Pennsylvania. Upon invitation, he serves on the Inn of Court of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and he has been invited frequently to lecture about evidence and trial techniques. Mr. Young has also lectured to groups concerned with pharmaceutical and antitrust claims. He has worked with expert witnesses throughout the United States and is frequently requested to represent some of the most distinguished physicians in the eastern United States.
