PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY (NON-MEDICAL)

For twenty-five years, Christie & Young PC has maintained an outstanding record, specializing in professional liability defense and ethics and professional responsibility counseling for accountants, architects and engineers, insurance agents and brokers, attorneys, and other miscellaneous professionals across the East Coast.

In the accounting arena, we have represented solo practitioners and small to medium size accounting firms.  We have been called upon to assist and defend accounting professionals in the volatile landscape of litigation and the legal and ethical standards that accountants and other professionals must meet and exceed, including the investigation and detection of financial and other fraudulent activities.

We have represented architects and structural and mechanical engineers in several major construction projects in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.  In addition, we have litigated complex insurance coverage disputes involving both architects and engineers, as well as insurance agents and brokers, including breach of contract, declaratory judgment and bad faith actions.

In advising insurance agents and brokers, we consult on industry best practices, interpret policy provisions and provide coverage options.  Many of the cases in which we defend insurance agents and brokers involve claims that the professional did not recommend or purchase enough insurance for the policyholder — a dispute which inevitably leads to a factual question about whether or not the policyholder ever requested risk management or valuation of risk.  We have represented insurance agents and brokers in numerous jury and non-jury cases in both state and federal court in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Finally, Christie & Young PC has long been recognized as a leader in counseling and defending lawyers, law firms and their insurers in legal malpractice cases and all aspects of the “law governing lawyers.”  We have defended attorneys involved in commercial litigation, transaction work, real estate, family law, and, increasingly, estate lawyers whose practices are devoted to wills and trusts.  Our attorneys also have extensive experience in defending attorneys involved in ERISA and Fair Credit Reporting Act matters, as well as Fair Debt Collection Practice Act class action lawsuits.  In addition, we regularly defend attorneys accused of breach of fiduciary duty; wrongful use/abuse of process; fraud; and violation of Pennsylvania’s Consumer Protection Law throughout courts, alternative dispute proceedings and in front of the Disciplinary Board of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners.
