Michael J. Rugnetta is an associate in the Professional Liability (Medical) Practice Group of Christie & Young, PC, resident in the Philadelphia office. Mr. Rugnetta primarily focuses his practice on the defense of complex claims in the area of medical malpractice representing hospitals, physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers in matters filed in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.
A Philadelphia native, Mr. Rugnetta received his undergraduate degree in cognitive science and political science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 where he was a member of the Front Row Theater Company, the Communication within the Curriculum Program, the Fox Leadership Program, and the Penn Bioethics Society. Following his graduation from college, Mr. Rugnetta worked as a research assistant at an influential think tank in Washington, DC where he authored articles, reports, and white papers on science and technology policy. He has been published in various online publications and has authored book chapters. He then went on to receive his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 2013. In law school, he served as an articles editor for the American Journal of Law and Medicine where he also authored a Recent Case Development. Mr. Rugnetta was a Rappaport Fellow in the Massachusetts State House for the summer of 2012 and was selected by BU Law to represent the school in Health Law Moot Court. Mr. Rugnetta was also a proud cast member of BU Law’s Legal Follies sketch comedy troupe.
Before joining the firm in 2018, Mr. Rugnetta worked for two years in Harrisburg at the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General in the Bureau of Consumer Protection where he oversaw investigations, litigated cases, and worked on multistate litigation with other states. Before that, he worked in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas as a judicial fellow to the Honorable Angelo J. Foglietta. Mr. Rugnetta also interned for the Honorable C. Darnell Jones of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and volunteered in the Labor and Employment Unit of the Philadelphia Law Department where he represented city departments in Civil Service Commission Hearings. Mr. Rugnetta is a 2003 graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School.
